Did you know by attending a dance performance, you can discover new ways to accomplish curriculum standards? Dance embraces music, visual arts, theater, sociology, and technology. Dance emulates life in its problem solving, critical thinking and collaborative approaches as well as its quest for beauty, passion, compassion and adventure.
This year we salute pioneers and innovators of the 20th Century and today. The legendary Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, Alwin Nikolais and Jose Limón were at the forefront of this dazzling artistic movement that impacted future generations of artists such as Pilobolus, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and today’s dance-makers. This art form continues to evolve in the 21st Century as it fuses global cultures, aesthetics and technology.
Students are encouraged to learn more about these Pioneers and Innovators by researching on the internet, reading biographies and watching documentary videos. Additional suggestions for curriculum links and for addressing standards are available through our complimentary study guides designed specifically for each program to extend the learning experience. |
